The Library of Congress holds one of the largest collection of Chinese language materials in the world outside of China. For modern Chinese history the collection covers all subject areas; it is especially strong in the humanities and social sciences. It holds archival materials of the Qing dynasty (1644-1911) and Republican period (1911-1949), as well.

Webside of the East Asia Department of the Staatsbibliothek Berlin, which holds the largest collection of books in Asian languages in Europe. Collection development on Greater China concentrates on social sciences and the humanities, with an emphasis on jurisprudence. The whole spectrum of Chinese culture is considered.

The China Biographical Database is a freely accessible relational database with biographical information about approximately 360,000 individuals as of 2016, primarily from the 7th through 19th centuries. The data is useful for statistical, social network, and spatial analysis. It is a joint project developed by Fairbank Center for Chinese Studies at Harvard University, Institute of History and Philology of Academia Sinica, Taiwan, and Center for Research on Ancient Chinese History at Peking University.
