EndNote enables you to easily share references and collaborate with other groupmates. You may wish to:

To enable the sharing function, you will need to sync your EndNote desktop library with an EndNote Online account.

Share a Group of References

This function is only available for a basic group, not working on Group Set / Smart Group / Combination Group.

  1. Select the group you would like to share and right-click
  2. Find Share Group. (If you have not signed in to your EndNote Online account before, you will be prompted to the login page.)
  3. Set up sharing options:
    • Enter e-mail(s) under 'Invite More People' field
    • Indicate Permission by selecting either Read & Write or Read Only
  4. Click Invite

Share the Entire EndNote Library

EndNote provides several options for sharing a library, including syncing with EndNote Online, sending a compressed library, or sharing a traveling library.

Share an entire Library through EndNote Online Service

  1. Go to File
  2. Select Share (If you have not signed in to your EndNote Online account before, you will be prompted to the login page.)
  3. Set up sharing options:
    • Enter e-mail(s) under 'Invite More People' field
    • Indicate Permission by selecting either Read & Write or Read Only
  4. Click Invite

Share a Compressed Libary

You can share an EndNote library by sending a Compressed Library file to another person. See details on how to create a Compressed Library here


Share a Traveling Library

You can extract references from a Traveling Library in a Word document to EndNote if the references were inserted using EndNote and contain field codes.

  1. In the 'EndNote' tab of your Word document, click Export to EndNote, then Export Traveling Library
  2. Select A new EndNote Library, and then click OK
  3. Name the file 
  4. Two EndNote files will be saved to the selected location :
