Reference Management Tool - RefWorks: Get Started

As the Library has a RefWorks subscription, both students and staff at CUHK have free access to this citation management tool. 

Please make sure to configure your browser settings as follows :

  • Do use the most recent version of browsers when accessing RefWorks.
  • Avoid using browser extensions, as they could interfere with the web-based reference manager.

Create a RefWorks Account

To create a RefWorks account, register using your CUHK email address.

Visit RefWorks websitehttps://refworks.proquest.com/

  1. Click Create account
  2. Enter your CUHK e-mail
  3. Click Check:
    • You will find this message "Good news! RefWorks is available at Chinese University of Hong Kong."
  4. Enter a password to create a new account 
  5. Click Sign Up

 

Tips

  • For security, use a password different from your CUHK OnePass password for RefWorks.
  • To start using RefWorks, you must activate your account by clicking the activation link sent to your CUHK e-mail. 
  • You are required to complete your RefWorks profile by providing the following information: First Name, Last Name, Area of focus and Role
     

Install RefWorks Citation Manager in MS Word

Follow the steps below to install RefWorks Citation Manager (RCM) in Microsoft Word. MS Office will automatically update whenever a new version of RCM is available.

The process to install RCM in MS Word can vary between devices and applications.

Method 1: Click 'Insert' tab from the Word, then 'Get Add-ins' from the top ribbon

Method 2: Click 'File' tab, then 'Get Add-ins' from the side menu bar

Method 3: Click 'Home' tab, then 'Add-ins' from the top ribbon

Method 4: Once you connected with RefWorks, you may find the 'RefWorks-RCM' tab from the top

 


After selecting the Add-ins for RefWorks-RCM

  1. Sign in with your CUHK RefWorks credential, then click Log in 
  2. The RefWorks-RCM panel is now accessible for use

RefWorks RCM is installed successfully!

RefWorks is installed in your MS Word. When you need to access RCM, just click RCM in the ribbon and log in with your CUHK RefWorks account.
