An entrepreneur is someone who is always on the lookout for problems that can be turned into opportunities and finds creative ways to leverage limited resources to reach their goals. In this course, learners will be introduced to the fundamental concepts, theories, and frameworks of entrepreneurship and learn how to apply them within the context of the world's largest market: China. Through cases, articles, and experiential learning, learners will gain expertise in how to identify and evaluate opportunities; interpret, analyze, and build financial models to enable high-growth ventures; practice living life as an entrepreneurial leader; and create a new product or service for the Chinese market.

In the past few years, there has been a surge in the level of interest and activities in entrepreneurship. But, what is the essence of entrepreneurship? To provide an understanding of entrepreneurship and the process of creating a new venture, Entrepreneurship Essentials introduces you to the basic concepts, theories, and frameworks of entrepreneurship via coming across its various aspects including capturing opportunity, business plan, financing and team building.

This course is designed to help you, as a strategist of a foreign company, better understand how to develop your China strategy. Specifically, after studying China’s changing strategic landscape, you will focus on mastering three strategic issues: who – the major players in China, how – the entry modes, and where – the location strategy for your China business. This course is aimed to deliver updated knowledge and real experiences of developing China strategy.

Participants will know how Chinese entrepreneurs, consumers and employees think and act, and be able to generate consumer and business insights for doing business in China. Through the use of well-designed business cases, participants will be able to apply this knowledge when they start or manage a business organization in China. Participants will be able to identify business opportunities and challenges based on nuanced understanding of the socio-political, economic, cultural, and technological environments in China, and leverage on their consumer and business insights to develop and implement culturally informed strategic plans.

Participants will know how Chinese entrepreneurs, consumers and employees think and act, and be able to generate consumer and business insights for doing business in China. This course is designed to help learners sell their products, goods and services to Chinese consumers. To achieve this goal, the course will use evidence-based research in psychology, economics, legal studies and marketing to help learners understand the historical, economic and legal contexts of doing business in China and the behavioral characteristics of Chinese consumers. The course will cover topics in Chinese and global marketing, Chinese consumers, institutional and cultural influence on consumer motivation and behaviors in Chinese markets, and brand management in China.

An introductory yet trenchant exploration of select Chinese classic texts that cover the domains of classical literature, history, philosophy, and fine arts.

This course will focus on the historical and cultural background, literary aesthetics, music, and performance of Kunqu, China’s classical opera. After viewing the lecture videos presented by scholars and renowned maestros in the field of Kunqu, students’ understanding and appreciation of Chinese performing arts, classical literature and traditional culture will be enhanced.

This course aims to enhance students’ knowledge of current and emerging legal and ethical issues most pertinent to the lives of older persons today, and their ability to propose and evaluate solutions to specific problems and challenges in this area.

「賽馬會『正正得正』教育計劃」正向教育課程透過介紹有關正向教育的理論、技巧 ，以及如何在香港中小學實踐，令學員對正向教育有初步認識。課程有四個單元，包括5小時的影片觀看及20小時的閱讀和學習任務完成時間。完成所有單元及學習任務的學員將獲得由香港中文大學頒發的課程出席證書。

This course covers the basic concepts and current development of protein trafficking in eukaryotic cells. Specific topics include: Introduction to protein trafficking, basic concepts of protein trafficking, the endomemebrane system, the protein degradation system, mRNA sorting, transport vesicle, receptor-mediated protein sorting, autophagosome and autophagic pathway, and unconventional protein secretion pathway.

As part of the flipped-classroom, each topic is supported and supplemented by one to three iCell or iProtein movies, that are derived and developed from the related research and/or review papers in this research field.

Bryophytes and ferns are members of the Kingdom Plantae and produce spores instead of seeds. These linages emerged before the appearance and divergence of seed plants. They show some adaptive features to the land life, though their sexual reproduction relies on the availability of free water in the environment.
Through this course, you will learn the key morphological features of these non-seed plants and their adaptive values by going through virtual labs, photo-sharing platform, videos and self-tests.

Optimization is a common form of decision making, and is ubiquitous in our society. Its applications range from solving Sudoku puzzles to arranging seating in a wedding banquet. The same technology can schedule planes and their crews, coordinate the production of steel, and organize the transportation of iron ore from the mines to the ports. Good decisions in manpower and material resources management also allow corporations to improve profit by millions of dollars. Similar problems also underpin much of our daily lives and are part of determining daily delivery routes for packages, making school timetables, and delivering power to our homes. Despite their fundamental importance, all of these problems are a nightmare to solve using traditional undergraduate computer science methods.

This course is intended for students interested in tackling all facets of optimization applications. You will learn an entirely new way to think about solving these challenging problems by stating the problem in a state-of-the-art high level modeling language, and letting library constraint solving software do the rest. This will allow you to unlock the power of industrial solving technologies, which have been perfected over decades by hundreds of PhD researchers. With access to this advanced technology, problems that are considered inconceivable to solve before will suddenly become easy.

This course is intended for students who have completed Basic Modelling for Discrete Optimization. In this course you will learn much more about solving challenging discrete optimization problems by stating the problem in a state-of-the-art high level modeling language, and letting library constraint solving software do the rest. This course will focus on debugging and improving models, encapsulating parts of models in predicates, and tackling advanced scheduling and packing problems. As you master this advanced technology, you will be able to tackle problems that were inconceivable to solve previously.

This course is intended for students who have completed Advanced Modelling for Discrete Optimization. In this course, you will extend your understanding of how to solve challenging discrete optimization problems by learning more about the solving technologies that are used to solve them, and how a high-level model (written in MiniZinc) is transformed into a form that is executable by these underlying solvers. By better understanding the actual solving technology, you will both improve your modeling capabilities, and be able to choose the most appropriate solving technology to use.

The lectures of this course are based on the first 11 chapters of Prof. Raymond Yeung’s textbook entitled Information Theory and Network Coding (Springer 2008). This book and its predecessor, A First Course in Information Theory (Kluwer 2002, essentially the first edition of the 2008 book), have been adopted by over 60 universities around the world as either a textbook or reference text.

This course aims at introducing students to the fundamental concepts and methods in linear algebra, which are key to many fields of engineering. Topics include systems of linear equations, Gauss elimination, matrix factorization, matrices and their operations, determinants, eigenvalues and eigenvectors, diagonalization, vector space, the Gram-Schmidt process, and linear transformation. Since this is the ELITE version of the course, additional topics such as intro to finite fields, real analysis, optimization, and numerical linear algebra will also be covered.

The objective of this course is to give you an understanding of how statistics operates in business and commerce. The statistics knowledge learned in this course will enable you to apply the fundamental statistical techniques in a wide variety of circumstances and perhaps more importantly, to assess the legitimacy and significance of the many and varied reports that you will come across during your future career. This course deals with the fundamentals of statistical methods, including descriptive statistics, sampling distribution, and survey errors.
