Workshop Title
The CUHK Research Data Repository is the University’s research data repository. It aims to facilitate CUHK researchers to deposit, publish, and curate their research data outputs and for the worldwide to discover, access, and reuse the data. This workshop will introduce the features of the CUHK Research Data Repository and the effective methods for better data self-management, including publishing and sharing data in the Repository, and depositing data for peer review. |

Keynote Lecture Title Keynote speaker: Dr. Stefan Thiemann Biography Dr. Stefan Thiemann is a distinguished expert in the fields of meteorology, computer science, and digital humanities. He studied Meteorology/Physics of the Atmosphere and Computer Science and earned his PhD at the University of Hamburg in 1996. Dr. Thiemann's career spans over three decades, beginning as a researcher at the Max Planck Institute for Meteorology and the University of Hamburg from 1990 to 2000. From 2000 to 2017, Dr. Thiemann served as a researcher in the Faculty for Humanities, where he was responsible for IT and Digital Humanities, and held the position of Faculty Information Officer. He was also a member of the Chief Information Officer (CIO) board of the University. Since 2016, he has been the Open Access Representative of the University, and in 2017, he founded and became the head of the Center for Sustainable Research Data Management. Dr. Thiemann is actively involved in academic committees related to digitalization, sustainable development, and research infrastructure, and represents the University of Hamburg in the German National Research Data Infrastructure association. He is also a member of the Working Group Ethics in the Centre for the Studies of Manuscript Cultures since 2020. Lecture Synopsis The University of Hamburg, a leading institution in higher education and research, is dedicated to advancing knowledge and fostering innovation. The Center for Sustainable Research Data Management at the University plays a crucial role in supporting researchers through effective governance and management of research data. Dr. Stefan Thiemann, the founder and head of the Centre for Sustainable Research Data Management, will provide an overview of the Center’s services and its role in promoting best practices in data management at the University of Hamburg. He will delve into the concepts and practices of Open Data, FAIR Data (Findable, Accessible, Interoperable, and Reusable) principles, and Data Ethics. Dr. Thiemann will also examine how the local support provided by the University of Hamburg aligns with the broader context of research data management in Germany and Europe. |

The Data Champions program at the CUHK Library is designed to promote data management best practices and foster a culture of data sharing and reuse among researchers. The program involves a network of volunteers who advocate for good data management practices within their faculties and provide support to their fellow students or colleagues. Data Champions receive training and resources from the Library to help them in their role, and they participate in regular meetings and events to share their experiences and learn from each other. The program aims to create a community of data-savvy researchers who can help drive the adoption of data management practices across the CUHK community.
Data Champions 2025 marks the second year of the Data Champions Program. During this event, we will introduce the newly appointed Data Champions from various faculties to the CUHK community. The event will also feature a faculty panel discussion on research data management topics with members from the Faculty of Medicine, Faculty of Science, Faculty of Arts, and Faculty of Social Science. |

The Data Analytics Practice Opportunity program, co-organized by the CUHK Library and the Data Science and Policy Studies, School of Governance and Policy Science, aims to encourage the reuse of data and support the exploration of data and metadata from the University and the Library collections. This event provides students with opportunities to develop data analytics projects using real data, promoting data mining and visualization. Participants will develop codes to analyze data and tell stories with the CUHK and CUHK Library resources.
Data Analytics Practice Opportunity 2024/25 will showcase five student group projects, utilizing data sources from the CUHK Press Release, Modern Verse, CUHK 60th Anniversary Oral History Project, Daoist Texts Collection, and COVID-19 dataset. Invited faculty and staff members will provide feedback on the student project presentations. |
