What is EndNote Basic

EndNote Basic, or commonly known as EndNote Online is an online version of EndNote you can use to:

  • Store references online;
  • Sync your EndNote Desktop and online libraries, and;
  • Share references with other people.

To share the references saved in one computer to others, or to make your entries in the EndNote Desktop portable, you may use the "sync" function in EndNote Basic. The process, in brief, is as follows:

  1. Upload, or "Sync" the references stored in an EndNote Desktop Library to a EndNote Basic account;
  2. References from this particular library are stored in an EndNote Basic account;
  3. Use another computer (installed with EndNote Desktop) to download, or "Sync" the reference library from that online account.

** One EndNote Basic account can only match to one Library. If you have organized your references in more than one library, please register another EndNote Basic account.

To enjoy all the features of EndNote Basic, you must sync a Library created under a paid EndNote Desktop version. This synchronization is regarded as an upgrade to the EndNote Basic account, which provides unlimited storage space, support more citation styles, and more.

How to create an account for Endnote Basic

If you have already created an account with another Thomson Reuters product, such as Web of Science, you should use the same email address and password for EndNote Basic.

If you do not have an account for any Thomson Reuters database, create your EndNote Basic account via Web of Science:

  1. Go to the Library Homepage;
  2. Select the "E-Resources" tab next to the LibrarySearch tab;
  3. Click "Databases by Type"
  4. On the right-hand side, choose "Web of Science" from "Useful Links";
  5. On  the blue command bar, choose Tools > EndNote;
  6. Select "Register";
  7. Key in your CUHK email address;
  8. Follow the steps shown to create your EndNote Online account.

After creating your EndNote Online Account, you can access it via their website, or search "EndNote login" in Google.
