Professor David Hawkes (霍克思, 1923–2009) was a renowned British Sinologist, much celebrated for his scholarship and creative ingenuity, and most well regarded for his masterful translations of Chinese literature.
Hawkes studied Chinese at University of Oxford (1945–1947) and was a research student at the then National Peking University (1948–1951). He left China and returned to Oxford in 1951 where he completed his doctoral dissertation on The Songs of the South. He was appointed Professor of Chinese at Oxford in 1959. From 1973 to 1983, he was a Research Fellow of All Souls College, Oxford, and later became an Emeritus Fellow. In 1983, he donated his personal library, The David Hawkes Collection which comprises about 4,500 volumes with works in Chinese, Japanese and English, including Chinese language and literature, history, philosophy, religion and drama, to the National Library of Wales.
Hawkes translated the poetry anthology, The Songs of the South, while he was still a young man, and the work was published by Oxford University Press in 1959, and later revised by the translator himself for the Penguin Classics edition, published in 1985. His A Little Primer of Tu Fu, first published in 1967 by Oxford University Press and later in 1987 by Renditions, the Research Centre for Translation, is an authoritative study and translation of the best-known works of the great Tang poet. However, there is no doubt that Hawkes’s most significant achievement as a translator is the The Story of the Stone, a work to which he fully devoted himself, even resigning from the post of Professor of Chinese in Oxford in 1971 to focus on the project. The first 80 chapters of The Story of the Stone was published in three volumes in 1973, 1977 and 1980 respectively. His translations not only demonstrate the highest standard of scholarship but also the highest standard for the art of translation, and will provide inspirations for generations of literary translators to ponder and reflect upon.

花木蘭數位資料庫涵蓋兩個子庫: 中國傳統文化研究系列及中國現當代文化與文學研究系列，收錄了近30年來有關中國傳統文化研究的六類重要學術論著，以及近20年來有關民國時期及人民共和國時期之文學論著。

The CUHK Electronic Theses and Dissertations Collection (the ETD Collection) holds the full-text of research degree’s theses and doctoral dissertations submitted by postgraduate students of The Chinese University of Hong Kong (CUHK) since 1967. It comprises more than 13,000 volumes in both English and Chinese. Searchable PDFs for the body text, abstracts and table of contents in both English and Chinese are provided. Alternatively, doctoral dissertations from 1997 onwards are also accessible via Dissertations & Theses @ CUHK.

The database provides 2,300 journals and 230,000 academic articles published by the Korea Institute of Excellence in full-text. It covers the subjects of arts, humanities, social science, natural science, engineering, medical science, agriculture, and more.

In 2008, the Chinese University of Hong Kong Library received its largest donation of Chinese ancient books from the Bei Shan Tang Foundation. The collection consists of 1,383 titles of Chinese ancient books in 9,886 volumes, among them, 52 titles are rare books. The editions are comprehensive, including woodblock printing, multi-colour printing, manuscripts, handwritten copies, and movable type printing. Notable in the collection contains Xinbian Shiwen Leiju Hanmo Quanshu (新編事文類聚翰墨全書), Guwen Yuan (古文苑) and Zongxuan Xiansheng Wenji (宗玄先生文集) of the Ming Dynasty, and Yueling Jiyao (月令輯要) and Yihai Jianwen (乙亥見聞) of the Qing Dynasty.

Collects over 10,000 kinds of Chinese classic ancient books, dated from the pre-Qin era to the period of Republic of China. This database contains more than 1.7 billion words, about 12,600 image editions, and over 1.5 million pages of original images. The contents cover almost all parts of Chinese history and culture. It is the most comprehensive collection of classic ancient books through the ages in Chinese history.

收錄唐五代的墓誌銘12,500餘通。見於史書、別集、總集等傳世文獻的墓誌銘，2,000餘通，收集墓誌拓片近10,000通。對各篇墓誌進行錄文、標點、分段、編年處理，並重新標點、分段，並且考證墓主姓名、時間等，對墓誌進行編年排序。

按照古籍整理出版的標準進行了點校處理，除正文外，還包含了大量注釋、校注等。收錄資源包括：見之於史書、別集、總集等傳世文獻的墓誌銘，共約5,000篇；金石圖書所錄出土墓誌、各藏家所藏舊拓本等，約1000篇；新出土墓誌之見之於各種書刊者，約1,500篇。

明 (1368-1644 A.D.) 永樂大典收錄了中國自古以來至明初的8,000份依主題編排的典籍，此資料庫包含了現存於世的813份。數據庫提供搜索，圖文對照，繁簡轉換等支援功能。

由台灣中央研究院創建。內容包括經、史、子、集四部，其中以史部為主，經、子、集部為輔。若以類別相屬，又可略分為宗教文獻、醫藥文獻、文學與文集、政書、類書與史料彙編等，累計收錄歷代典籍已達一千四百八十六種。

全面收集碑碣2,466通，製作成拓片圖錄3,000餘幅等；據圖錄準確釋文，並為碑銘中的疑難詞語簡要注釋和考辨等，輔以解說。

依據韓國成均館大學收藏的《燕行錄》，進行全文數位化處理。記載了明清兩朝到中國的韓國使團的所見所聞，對於中國當時的政治、經濟、文化、社會風俗都有詳略各異的記述。其收錄的書籍共計380種。

本文字圖像共享平台整合了逾200萬件的中國與日本的簡牘與紙本、文書與典籍、抄本與刻本等紀元前至19世紀的文字圖像，以供讀者查閱。
